Tying the knot – Oakhurst style

Posted by Oakhurst Farm Cottage - 6 April 2021 | Blog

Proving to be a real hit amongst the soon-to-be wed set looking for the ultimate country nuptials on the Garden Route, our recently completed wedding venue has been strutting its stuff over the past month.

Looking back at the weddings we’ve hosted at Oakhurst since the venue was completed, each one has been completely unique, with couples adding their special touches to personalise the space and setting.

That’s what works so well with a Oakhurst wedding, while we provide a set wedding package, couples have the ability to get creative and make an occasion that themselves and their guests will remember for years to come.

The picturesque avenue at Oakhurst, sets the perfect scene for a country wedding.

The vows – indoor or outdoor “I Do’s”

These days it’s not always the traditional church based wedding service where couples choose to exchange vows, which is why we’ve created a second option to the Oakhurst chapel.

This open-air setting is a field under a grove of bluegum trees where couples can create a space to have their outdoor wedding service. We provide wooden benches and a wedding arch, which can be set up and added to as needed

That said, many still prefer to use the historic All Saints Church on Oakhurst for their wedding service, a fitting place indeed to tie the knot. The most recent wedding hosted on Oakhurst saw the chapel beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery for the occasion.

The option of a traditional indoor wedding at the chapel is still popular.

Making a weekend of it – hosting your guests at Oakhurst

Getting family and friends together from across the globe isn’t something which happens often. Our wedding package takes this into account and includes accommodation in our gorgeous Farm Cottages, The Schoolyard and The Forge, allowing up to 50 guests to spend two nights on the farm.

The historic Forge, with its romantic charm and character is well suited to accommodate the wedding couple, while the Farm Cottages and The Schoolyard offer friends and family the option of being close to one another, but with their own space to retreat to as and when needed.

What’s more, guests have full use of the farm trails, bike tracks and swimming pool, and kids can keep themselves busy in the kids play area on the forest edge below the cottages.

The historic Oakhurst Forge is the preferred accommodation for the wedding couple.
The 5 Oakhurst Farm Cottages and The Oakhurst Schoolyard are ideal for family and friends and are included as accommodation in our wedding package.

The build-up – a pre wedding meet and greet

The meet and greet option included in our package is a great way for friends and family to get together and catch up before the day of the wedding. Our most recent wedding couple hailed from outside of South Africa, with friends and family descending on Oakhurst from all over the country.

The new wedding venue is made ready and available for guests to get together for a dinner, braai or in this case a lamb-on-the-spit.

Apart from the use of the venue, we provide cutlery and crockery, braai equipment, firewood and fire baskets for ambiance. It’s a great way to get everyone together after they’re settled into their accommodation…and of course to get the weekend’s celebrations off to a good start.

The wedding venue –  Oakhurst’s latest creation

Our newly built wedding reception venue offers a superb setting and open-air feel, with it’s partially enclosed design.

A large screeded floor opens out in front of the bar and dining area. Enclosed on three sides, the venue offers the flexibility for additional stretch tents to be added to extend the size of the covered area.

Included are firewood and fire baskets, fairy lights and white cotton bunting, WiFi and sound, as well as our own cutlery and crockery.

The venue works like a dream, with an idyllic setting and the option to be used as is, or take the form of the foundation on which couples can add and build their own personal décor and extras as needed.

The venue, cutlery, crockery, tables and seating cater for up to 50 guests, but we can host up to 100 guests, as well as accommodate the additional numbers in the AfriCamps tents on the farm, which would need to be hired outside of our package offer.

Bringing in the support crew – our wonderful wedding suppliers

Apart from budgets, there really are so many aspects to consider when putting together the ultimate country wedding. We’ve worked with a number of quality, local suppliers and outfitters to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day.

From wedding co-ordinators to flower suppliers, marquee providers to photographers, hairdressers to make up artists. All are Garden Route based and have good knowledge of Oakhurst as a venue, meaning you can relax and let them take care of the detail. We provide a full list of these suppliers on enquiry.

Our trusted service providers focus on every detail.

Oakhurst service – Going the extra mile

At Oakhurst we’re always focussed on the detail. It’s that detail that so often brings the whole celebration together. From the cosy and comfortable accommodation, the spotless appearance of the farm, wedding venue and chapel and of course the friendly and helpful Oakhurst staff.

Most of all, like everything at Oakhurst…it’s that good ol’ fashioned farm fun that’ll make your country wedding absolutely perfect.
