Our Farm Cottages have been part of the Oakhurst story for over 40 years. It’s now nearly a decade since they received a full restoration and were slotted into the farm’s accommodation line up, offering a fabulous setting for families or groups staying at Oakhurst. Over the years the gardens have flourished, the trees have grown and more recently the cottages have received their annual refurb, ready for the busy festive season.
Sprucing things up
Each year we set about improving the Oakhurst accommodation, replacing worn furnishings, repainting walls, tending and replanting gardens and adding those little extras that’ll make your experience as a guest, that much more relaxing and memorable. This year’s been no different and at last the final touches have been added, meaning that you can kick back on that comfy deck, wallow in your hot tub or chill on a sofa with a good book…this is after all your holiday!
Decor, decks and hot tubs
Apart from new blinds, some updated bathroom fittings, painting and decor changes, as well and shelving and lighting improvements in the bedrooms, the major changes involved adding new decks onto three of the units. The decks not only extend the outside living space, but also accommodate the wood-fired hot tubs, right on deck level. Yip, that means your hot tub’s always close at hand and a great place to relax while the braai’s on the go.
Bring on the paparazzi
Having not had the five Farm Cottages professionally photographed for a number of years, we’ve had all of our photographs updated to give you a better idea of how it’s all looking. Those crisp interiors, decks with forest views, and of course the gardens have changed the feel of the cottages completely from our earlier images. The new photographs really do capture the surroundings and units just perfectly.
Time to kuier
For families or a bunch of friends, the five cottages really are a great recipe for an awesome break. Each within walking distance of the other, but with plenty of privacy created by the gardens, groups can make one cottage a central base for meals, and still have their own unit to retreat to at bed time. Each cottage deck has a built braai area with great views out over the forest. As said by many a guest:, “It’s hard to beat a good “kuier” in this environment.
The lay of the land
Being central to most of the farm activities, getting over to the horses or onto the forest trails is super-easy. The MTB pump track, swimming pool and basket ball court are all within a quick bike ride or walk from your abode. The communal braai and picnic area, as well as the big swing, crows nest and climbing wall are also located directly below the cottages.
What’s inside the box
Each cottage has three bedrooms (One double and two twins) and sleeps up to 6 people. The double bedroom is self contained, while the two twin bedrooms are interleading, the second twin can only be accessed via the first twin bedroom. There’s a central bathroom with shower. The living areas are open plan with a cozy vibe and wooden floors and lead onto an equipped kitchen. Fireplaces adorn the living rooms to keep out the chill of those cold Garden Route winters.
The proof is in the pudding
If you’re looking for the quintessential family farm stay, with loads to do, plenty of space to relax and a Farm Cottage second to none, rally together the troops and head on over to Oakhurst. The good times await.
